Reindeer, or Deer, or Deer (Latin Cervidae), is a family of artiodactyl mammals containing 51 modern species. Reindeer are common in Eurasia, North and South America, and have also been introduced by humans to Australia and New Zealand.

Branched horns are characteristic, which are available only in males. The only exceptions are the water deer, which has no horns at all, and the reindeer, which has horns worn by both sexes. The horns are shed every year and grow anew. In reindeer, males shed their antlers in November-December, and females - in May-June after calving, which helps vazhenki in winter to protect the yagel dug in the snow from stronger, but hornless males.
